Astral Bodies
Astral Bodies is an immersive and interactive exhibition presented in Milan, Valencia, and Madrid, showcasing FINSA’s MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) product, Fibracolour. Inspired by the fascinating phenomenon of meteorites falling to Earth, the project combined scientific research, artistic experimentation, and innovative design to create a multisensory journey.
In Milan, the installation featured 35 LED tubes simulating meteorite falls, enhanced with real-time algorithms, dynamic lighting sequences, and recordings of actual impacts. Visitors could interact with the largest MDF meteorite, Trevinca, whose vibrational frequencies were captured and transformed into generative sound and projection.
In Valencia, during Feria Hábitat 2019, the exhibition expanded into an “archaeology of the future” concept. Meteorites were categorized by inferred origin based on their unique tones and colors, with interactive screens responding to radiant patterns created by light tubes. The centerpiece was an interactive meteorite study table, with zones highlighting:
Meteorite landing locations
Physical attributes: texture, weight, and size
Characteristics of FINSA’s MDF product
Visitors could use small meteorite pieces to activate the projections, learning both about the Astral Bodies project and the properties of the product itself.
Across all three cities, Astral Bodies merged science, design, and interaction, allowing audiences to explore the celestial world of meteorites while experiencing the versatility and innovation of Fibracolour in a fully immersive environment.
